Another helpful page 'borrowed' from A52: From time to time members will request that threads are removed, or they edit their own posts within them because they no longer want to participate in a discussion that they feel got out of hand. Requests to delete threads will typically fall on deaf ears if the reason for the request is simply embarrassment. What you write and post isn't temporary. There is no "undo" button in real life. What you've said on here to people is in their brains, and getting rid of it on the board isn't going to erase whatever they are feeling about it. The purpose of this board is for those of us who are involved in some way with Rockfist! (the band, the concept, the spirit, whatever) to communicate more easily.
Communication should be thoughtful and respectful, and above all, it should be genuine. If you want something erased, then your feelings weren't very sincere. If you wrote something when you were drunk, on Valium, or just plain pissed off, well, that's who you are at those times, and editing your posts in the colder, more precise light of the next morning just makes you appear weak, flakey, and too concerned with what others think. By definition, that's not genuine communication. Write and post with confidence that what you say is how you really feel, and if you change your mind and decide that Korn really IS the best band in the world, don't be afraid to say, "I made a mistake! Korn rocks!" Still, deleting threads sometimes happens, and the only reasons for which we'll do it is when the thread contains information that is harmful to someone (like will get them fired, jailed, or litigated against) or contains really disrespectful statements about someone's character, race, gender, orientation, etc. You may edit your own posts as much as you like, but keep in mind the impression that leaves on others about your sincerity and maturity.
Note: Editing to make people think you said something that you didn't, like, for example, to win a debate, is a no-no, and when this happens you will be outed. Edits for anything other than legitimate corrections really ought to be done in a new post.
If you haven't learned this by now, pay attention: Nothing ever is really "gone" on the Internet. Editing or deleting a thread on a message board (which is nothing more than a web interface for a DATABASE) will not really get rid of it. It just stores it in a different place. You leave a trail whenever you do anything online, so make sure what you leave says what you want it to say about you. Love, RoughRider
